EZ Proxy errors

We use open tool through our link resolver from Serial Solutions and we were not getting that message for PubMed. My log though is showing several different gethostbyname errors for many different URLs, and we also getting UUconnect remote host Messages for a few sites, PubMed was not one of those sites with errors. Currently our users of the various resources have not reported any problems. My office computer runs through EZProxy for testing and I am not having connection issues. My question is what occurs on the user's end when our log shows these messages, and why are we suddenly getting so many different URLs sending these error messages? A few weeks ago the campus network was blocking access to some of our resources for users off campus, but that issue was resolved by central IT. Could our EZProxy still be having issues with the campus network somehow or the campus DNS server or something outside of our EZProxy? Is there something I should also be reviewing to find out why we are getting so many errors from different hosts and making changes in our EZproxy to prevent some of these errors?

We proxy by host and use EZproxy 5.7.20 GA [SOURCE:5.7.16] [Linux]

We have been receiving a connection refused message from PubMed since yesterday. OCLC hosts for us, and our url is working on OCLC's end.

Are there any sites with Pubmed setup to use the otool= statement to access specifically their linked titles via Ezproxy? In browsers, we're now getting "connection refused" and the messages file shows

A person answering a help desk phone reports, "yes, there are problems connecting with Ezproxy." Past experience with PubMed prompts me to send this to the list for confirmation.

Rebecca,
In my experience, UUconnect messages have been when a remote server is unable to process a request. Typically, that has lasted from a few seconds to a few minutes when a vendor has some service disruption. THE reason for my query was that PubMed was working for us from on campus, but not via proxy and this went on for hours upon hours.
The message that I received in a browser while testing (which should match identically what a patron would experience) was "Connection Refused." Utilizing various web debugging tools, I saw an HTTP 503 error message.

Hi all,

There was an issue on the NLM side which caused a widespread problem with ezproxy connections to PubMed being refused. So, nothing was wrong with local ezproxy configurations, and it looks like the source problem was resolved at NLM yesterday afternoon. (We’ve been able to connect since then.)

Cheers,
